Access to the data is granted through a subscription, each level of subscription varies the level of granularity and data sources provided.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the data come from?
Mobility data
For mobility insights, we gather information from millions of voluntarily shared and anonymised device locations throughout Australia, collected through various applications.
Accommodation data
Our accommodation data is sourced from leading online booking platforms, including booking.com, Air BNB, TripAdvisor, and Stayz.
Flight data
We obtain flight data directly from Skyscanner and their affiliated partners.
Transaction data
Transaction data is obtained through Visa and is aggregated to provide total domestic expenditure.
How often is the data updated?
Data updates vary from providers, the core datasets are updated as follows:
Accommodation demand: Weekly
Accommodation supply: 16-18 days after most recent complete month
Mobility data: Fortnightly
Flight data: Weekly
Spend: 3-4 weeks after most recent complete month
Who can I share the data with?
Localis was initially established due to the absence of informative and exchangeable data accessible to local councils and destination marketing organisations. With this in mind, developing a platform that enables users to share all insights with any third party was essential. The appropriate referencing of sharing data can be found at the bottom of every dashboard.
Can I benchmark myself against another region?
At Localis, we acquire the majority of our data at a national level, granting us access to neighbouring and competing regions for benchmarking purposes. If you're interested in accessing this data, please reach out to team@localis.co. It's important to note that this data does not include spend data, as spending analysis is conducted on a region-by-region basis.
